March 2005 - California

st - 2nd Left Anaheim and drove down to Carlsbad. Its a nice campsite with NO hookups. But our site was on a cliff over looking the ocean. It was nice to have a day to do nothing.

rd Left Carlsbad and went to Legoland. After wards we went to Oceanside and stayed at the Paradise by the Sea RV Resort. What a noisy RV Park! By the train tracks and a very busy road.

th We left Oceanside and we drove to San Diego and are staying at Silverstrand state beach. Right on the beach again. Very nice parking lot to camp in! The weather has been horrible! Windy and Rain, rain and more rain! hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

th Today we are still at Silverstrand and no rain! =) The morning we spent walking on the beach and collecting shells. Valerie would not come near the ocean! I guess its a little too big for her. The kids found a lot of sand dollars. In the afternoon we went to Mexico (Tijuana) . That was an experience! All of the shop owners were yelling at us to come into their shops. We bought Alexis a knitted poncho($10) - Blue, Black & White. Marisa got on also. Alexis got the top half of her hair braided ($5). Trenton got a Sling-Shot($5) and a Turtle that wobbles its head. Valerie got a beaded bracelet($1) and a yellow paper flower($1). Dave found a hammock($10). Paul's kids always seems to need to use the bathroom, and you have pay to use it! This on bathroom we used was 35cents! Paul said how about a dollar for the whole family? The guy said yes, but before you went in, he gave you a few squares of toilet paper. That was it! Taking the bus back was a hour and a half ride. It had so many cars waiting for the boarder, and to go through customs. We were worried because the campsite we were staying at ( silverstrand) they closed the gates at 7pm. But we made it back just in time with just 10 min to spare!

th We left SilverStrand around noon. Not after a little more time on the beach. Beautiful day. We went to the KOA in Chula Vista. This KOA is REALLY nice. Full hook ups, nice spots, nice pool and hottub, good playground for the kids and laundry too! Thats what we did today, laundry and had the kids play at the park while we waited. The kids are enjoying this wonderful california day. Tomorrow we go to Sea World!

th Today we went to Sea World. It was home school day and since Paul home schools his kids we all got in for cheap cheap cheap! It was cool to see all of the animals, and when we went to see the dolphin show, they asked Dave to come up at the beginning and answer some questions! It was like a contest between Dave ( representing the adults) and this young girl ( representing the kids) It was fun. We left a little early to try and beat the rush hour traffic. Well after we got out of San Bernadino traffic I had to go to the bathroom so Dave pulled over so I could use the trailers since we were far from any gas station. Well he pulled over on the off ramp and gave me his keys since mine were in the locked trailer. Well when Dave tried to start the car, after I was done, it wouldn't start. All of the dash light would light so we knew it wasn't the battery. After about 30 min or so, Paul took our kids and put them in his motor home with his family. We called our insurance company to try and get a tow. Well, the tow truck guy said that he wouldn't tow our trailer. We couldn't leave it on the off ramp it may roll down into the freeway! So he drove right past us.... we tried to start the car again. IT STARTED!! Our Prayers were answered! We drove until we needed gas and then we didn't know if we should shut the car off because it may not start! Well, we took a chance and shut it off. No Starting again for over one hour. So while we waited, we got dinner at McDonalds and hung out in Pauls motorhome. We didn't pull in to victorville KOA ($22) until around 11 pm  ... what a day. =(

th This morning we had planned on going to the Calico Ghost town. But Since we had such a hard time with our car, we decided to do it another time. I am really disappointed about it. We drove all day without turning off the car. We finally made it to Las Vegas and camped at the Oasis RV Resort ($39). Very nice, two pools, one for adults and one for families. Full Hookups Far away enough from the strip.

th Today we leave Vegas and head home. Besides the car problems, it has been a GREAT TRIP.
